Who Are We? GRD!Representing the up-and-coming city of Greenville and the surrounding area, Greenville Roller Derby (originally established as the Greenville Derby Dames in 2008) is a WFTDA roller derby league. We're a group of dedicated, strong, hard-working, and independent individuals who provide live, athletic entertainment that showcases the skating talent of Upstate SC. GRD strives to improve each member’s individual athletic ability, self-discipline, and character while serving our community.
We're a sprinkling of fresh 18-year-olds, even more fresh 40-somethings, and every age in between. Our team welcomes everyone from lifelong athletes to rookies who have never touched a sport or roller skate in their lives. Short, tall, big, or small—if you’re dedicated, competitive, and committed, WE WANT YOU! Whether you're looking to compete or support your local team, there's a place for you in Greenville Roller Derby. |

Mission Statement
Greenville Roller Derby provides a fun and welcoming environment where all people have opportunities to train their bodies and minds through athletic competition and community service. We strive to nurture and empower our members to become valuable players, teammates, and community members both on and off the track.
Our History & ComMUNITY
The Greenville Derby Dames (GDD) were founded in 2008 to provide quality, alternative sports entertainment and to empower women of all walks of life to be active in the community. As our league evolved, we recognized the need to not only empower women, but to hold space and provide a platform for all people, regardless of color, gender identity, or ability. In that spirit, our team announced our name change to Greenville Roller Derby (GRD) in early 2022. Read more in depth about our re-branding here.
This change came from a desire and responsibility to make sure our team culture includes not only cis-gendered participants within our league, but also transgender, intersex, and non-gender conforming skaters, refs, NSOs, and fans of all races and abilities. A new logo that represents our community of diverse cultures was created to replace our previous logo that did not represent the whole of our skaters, refs, NSOs, fans, community, and our sport.
We recognize that a new name and logo are not enough to make our team more inclusive. There is more work to be done, and Greenville Roller Derby is committed to reflecting and taking action to make our league more diverse, inclusive, and equitable. We want our community to know GRD is a safe space for all people who want to be part of the roller derby family.
