New to Derby? Start Here!Roller derby is an amazing sport where you can become an adult athlete while making a great group of friends and helping the community. If you're up for a challenge, you'll find Greenville Roller Derby is a competitive league who practices hard and plays even harder. We expect our skaters to not only “give it their all” on the track, but also pursue fitness outside of practice. Skating and exercising outside of practice will be extremely helpful during your training, as you'll be developing muscles not normally used in daily activities.

We’re fully committed to your safety and the development of your skills. As a new skater, you’ll complete our 12-week new skater program, where you’ll practice the skills necessary to safely play flat track roller derby. During this time, you’ll learn how to skate forward and backward, stop, fall correctly, maintain balance, give “whips” and pushes, and how to properly hit and take hits in addition to basic game-play and rules. At the end of your training program, you'll be assessed and graduate to being an official league member. To reserve your spot, please (1) pay a non-refundable fee of $65 to "@GnvlRollerDerby" on PayPal or "@greenvillerollerderby" on Venmo and (2) complete this form. |
Recruitment sessions are held at Skateland USA on 7514 Whitehorse Road in Greenville. During this time we'll discuss some basic team information, league communication, practice schedule, training regimen, costs associated with derby, safety gear, and answer any other questions you have. Recruitment is also open to anyone interested in learning how to referee or volunteer.

Transfer Skaters
We're so excited that you're considering joining our team! GRD is always open to transfer skaters; no need to wait for a recruitment event. If you've played in at least one game in an adult league, or at least one season for a juniors team, you'd be considered a transfer skater. Please send your responses to the following questions to grd.athletics.committee@gmail.com. Let us know what mad skills you can bring to our league!
- What league are you transferring from? If applicable, what other leagues have you played in?
- How long have you skated?
- When is the last time you skated? When is the last time you played derby?
- What level of gameplay did you participate in with your previous league? (Position, competitiveness level, etc.)
- Do you have WFTDA insurance for this year?
- Have you had any recent injuries or medical concerns we should be aware of?
