The Dames were at it again hosting another double header on May 12th, this time featuring The Camel City Thrashers from Winston Salem, NC and The Hard Knox Roller Girls from Knoxville, TN. Season 4, Bout 4 was also GDD's Military/First Responders appreciation bout honor those who serve our country everyday with an honor guard, bag piper and presentation at the All Stars half-time. The Babes brought their total victory tally to 4-1, dominating the Camel City Thrashers. The Babes had their pack work down against Camel City, allowing jammers like Miss Align, Trama Queen and Dolly Decker to just rack up the points. Final score 176-46. May brought The GDD All Stars their toughest competitor yet. The Dames went up against The Hard Knox Roller Girls, a well-respected and full-fledged WFTDA team (who brought an army of diehard fans). Although the Dames and Hard Knox both had seen their share of skater turn over – Hard Knox had the upper hand with experienced jammers like Drop Dead Gorgeous and Evil Lucia. The All Stars had one hell of a time trying to contain those two jammers while trying to help their own jammers like Country Bruiser, Annathrax and Conway Hitty through the pack. The first few jams were brutal with Hard Knox putting up 14, 10 & 13 point jams to GDD’s 0 consecutively. At one point in the first half the All Stars were down 48-2, but definitely not out of this bout. Amazingly the All Stars were able to hold off Hard Knox’s jammers for 2 jams in a row allowing Amber Rage and AnnaThrax to make some big gains 19-0, 20-0 back to back getting the Dames within striking distance of a lead and back into the game. However it wasn’t enough to do much damage the first half the All Stars had a series shut of 11 consecutive jams that posted no points for the Dames. The All Stars had some hard working packs those jams however keeping Hard Knox from running up the board too much. Thankfully the last jam of the first half Annathrax posted another 15 point jam in favor of the Dames bringing the score at the half to 60-89 in favor of Hard Knox. The Dames lived up to their reputation as a second-half team. The All Stars took time to take a breather and get their heads back into the game. The first 3 jams went in favor of the All Stars and all though Hard Knox pulled out some big jams, the Dames never gave up fighting each and every jam and playing as smart as they possibly could every power jam. Those Hard Knox girls were tough and their experience pulled out the Dames first loss of their fourth season. Final score 144-127 Hard Knox. Have no fear though, GDD fans – the Dames hit the road this weekend, headed to Knoxville for a rematch!

The Bad News Babes were on the road again April 29th in lovely Augusta, GA. Home of the wonderful hostess's, The Soul City Sirens. You know it's always an awesome bout (and two closesly matched teams) when a team wins by 1 point. We're proud to say it was The Bad News Babes who brought home that hard earned victory! Again these ladies hard work continues to pay off for them this season! Congrats Babes!
The Greenville Derby Dames Season 4, Bout 3 Double Header featured The Bad News Babes vs. The Low Country High Rollers and The GDD All Stars vs. The Chattanooga Roller Girls. The Bad News Babes hosted the Low Country High Rollers Bruising Betties in the first match up of Season 4, Bout 3. The Babes knew just what to do and dominated the pack from the get go. First jam of the bout was a 12-12 draw between the Babes and the Betties. However the next two jams (Debuting jammers Trama Queen and Miss Align respectively) the Babes dominated with 13-0 and a 4-0 jam, bringing the Dames lead to 29-12. Next jam Dolly Deck posts a commanding 14-3 jam of her own. The Babes hard work at practice definitely showed on the track, they had the execution of strategy and teamwork down to a science allowing their jammers to rack up some pretty big runs bringing the score at half time 96-41 in the favor of the Babes. The second half was just as good as the first for the Babes, never losing the upper hand over the Bruising’ Betties. Low penalties and high jam scores culminated into a 141-77 victory over the Low Country High Roller Bruising’ Betties. The All Star Bout between The Chattanooga Roller Girls and The GDD All Stars was one for the books. Seriously, if you weren’t there you missed out!! Notice we keep saying that? If you haven’t coughed up $10 bucks to see these girls skate, you need to do so PRONTO! Chatta came busting out of the gate hitting hard and looking for blood, putting up a 9 point jam. The All Stars answered back with 6 points, but Chatta put away 9 points in the next three jams, plus a huge 13-0 unanswered jammed. Luckily the All Stars caught a power jam and used it to its full advantaged putting up a 15-0 unanswered jam of their own to close Chatta’s early lead. However luck swung once again in Chatta’s favor and Chatta’s jammer Tamara Obscura was able to bank another 13 point jam to Conway Hitty’s 9 point jam. With GDD missing two of their key jammers (Lorena Block-It and Amber Rage), the All Stars were having to get creative and put some skaters you usually see blocking on the jammer line. The All Star blocking squad dug deep and was able to hold off Chatta’s jammers for 2 jams in a row, allowing Conway Hitty and Annathrax to put 9 and 10 points respectively up on the board for GDD bringing the score 50-52. The next several jams were either close outs or a few points going in favor of Chatta giving them a 79-60 lead of the All Stars. If you’re reading this and you HAVE been to a derby bout, then you know full well how close the score is and how anything and I mean ANYTHING can happen in 2 minutes or less. In the final jam before the half Annathrax had a commanding power jam of 22-0 giving the Dames the lead over Chatta at the half 82-79. The Dames regrouped and came out even stronger in the second half, maintaining their lead stronger closing out Chatta for 6 jams in a row with GDD still in the lead 106-93. Chatta got 2 more good runs in, but it wasn’t enough to hold of the Dames teamwork. GDD took the win 136-110.
Photo Credits: I-Lie-Kit Ruff Explosive derby action rocked the Dame Dome Saturday night. If you weren’t there, YOU MISSED OUT. Period. The Dames broke their attendance record with their 2012 season opening bout. Over 600 people attended the muscle bruising double header. The dames first ever complete ticket sell out. The opening bout featured Greenville Derby Dames two intra league teams, The Dames of Destruction vs. The Victorious Secrets. There were fresh faces to be seen for this season opener with many of the girls making their bouting debut. The teams fought valiantly from the first whistle blast, but it ws the VictouriousSecrets that took the early. Penalties spilled forth for the Dames of Destruction. A mistake the Victourious Secrets took full advantage of in both halves. The final jam saw a 30 point gain by Aim and Kil (AK)for the Victoious Secret’s cementing the win with a final score of (133-70). Dita Von Beast took MVP blocker & Dolly Decker took MVP jammer for the Dames of Destruction. Hellvis took MVP blocker & Stevie Wounder took MVp jammer for the Victorious Secrets. Expect the Dames to seek blood thirsty retribution next time these two teams square off. The headlining bout featured The Greenville Derby Dames All Stars hosting the Dixie Derby Girls from Huntsville, AL. This was the second chance the Dames had the chance to prove themselves against a WFTDA team. The night held hard hits, solid walls, and a evenly fought match for points. The bout started with eRacer facing off against Lorena Block-it. Lorena drew first blood by ending the jam with six points for the Dames. Annathrax went toe to toe with B.O.A. for the second jam and added four more points to the Dame’s lead. Dixie gained 12 more points as they strategically called off the jams to shut out the Dames over the next five jams. The first half rolled forward with both teams seeing very little point gain. The night was devoted to strategy as the trend for ending the jam early continued adding only a few points at a time and the Dames trying to keep themselves out of the penalty box. At the half the Dames were down by one point. The teams took to the track after the intermission only to have Dixie shut the Dames out three more times. In the end endurance won the night for the Dames as many of the fatigued Dixie skaters found themselves in the penalty box and on the injured list. The Dames took full advantage of Dixie’s shortcomings and had Lorena Block-it score in excess of 25 points in two of her jams. By the end of the game the Dames had gained a solid lead with a final score of 179-100. 5 Scar General took MVP Jammer and Cake Face Killa took MVP Blocker for Dixie. Lorena Blockit took MVP Jammer and Conway Hitty took MVP Blocker for The Dames. The applause was overwhelming as the Dames reveled in their second WFTDA team win. |
